Enjoy the beauty of your landscaping at night.
Spring Hill Landscape Lighting
Why enjoy your beautiful landscaping only during the day? Spring Hill Landscapes can bring your landscape to life at night. We design to accentuate the landscape and architectural style of your home and to bring out the special beauty of the night garden. We illuminate the best features, leaving dark those you wish to conceal. Think of how stunning that Japanese maple would look, up-lighted, or the subtle look of a softly lit stone walkway or stairway. Imagine grasses flooded from behind with light. Garden lighting also has a practical side. It helps you see where you're walking at night and discourages intruders by lighting the ground level clearly and eliminating shadows near the house. Our staff can tailor an outdoor lighting system to meet your specific needs!

Types of Outdoor Garden and Landscape Lighting.
UP-LIGHTING is a technique that is utilized frequently by landscape lighting designers to emphasize a particular feature in the yard. Suitable subjects for this technique include open structured, ornamental trees, Japanese maples, and dogwoods. The light fixtures will be shielded from view to avoid glare.
DOWN LIGHT is used if you have an abundance of mature trees in your garden, we can install lights high up in the canopy above branches and leaves. This will cast interesting shadows down onto the surrounding areas while at the same time, creating an inviting level of illumination in the surrounding area.
BACK LIGHTING involves positioning a light in the same plane as an interestingly textured surface such as a brick or stone wall. This light will bring out the texture while providing reflected light into the surroundings.
PATHWAY LIGHTING provides a soft subtle light for the walkway or stairway. The fixtures protrude about 20" above ground and are usually made of solid brass.
By far the most suitable lighting systems for installation in the garden environment, are known as LOW VOLTAGE. These are normally 12 volts and are therefore inherently safe. Not only are they more economical to install, they can easily be expanded to grow and develop with your garden.
All landscape lighting at your home or business property should always have these two priorities:
- PURPOSE :: Necessary Illumination Lighting for walkway safety & area security.
- BEAUTY :: Property Enhancement & Art Expression.
A landscape lighting design should always accomplish both of these priorities at the same time, and fit into your energy budget. Recommended landscape lighting fixtures for permanent, year-round use:
- POST LIGHT :: Post lighting fixtures give you the most light for your energy dollar. Post fixtures are easy to install and easy to maintain. Post fixtures can vary in height, style and light output. Receptacles can be installed at the base for holiday lighting.
- MUSHROOM LIGHTS :: Mushroom lights are favored mostly because of their "low level" lighting along walkways & driveways (usually in sets of 3 or more). Mushroom lighting gives your property a beautiful lighting appearance but in many cases require more maintenance than other landscape fixtures.
- UP-LIGHTING :: Up-lighting fixtures can be installed under trees & shrubbery and/or at the base of the property. Up-lighting can give your property the most beautiful appearance while giving you adequate area lighting as well (reflective light).
- STEP-LIGHTS :: Step lights refer to "built in" lighting fixtures in steps, decks, retaining walls, etc. (Step lights are usually installed in coordination with the construction of these). Step lights always give you the most in lighting purpose & beauty.
- BOLLARD LIGHTS :: Bollard lighting fixtures are waist high, heavy duty fixture posts with beacon type heads that are used most commonly for commercial, industrial & institutional walkways and driveways. They are usually recommended for their vandal proof and easy to maintain characteristics while giving good Purpose & Beauty lighting.

- STANDARD WALL SWITCH :: Landscape lighting can be operated simply by a wall switch or switches. A wall switch can also be used to override another system.
- PHOTO CONTROL :: Lighting circuits remain "on" during dusk to dawn hours and shut "off" at daylight. A "kill switch" or "override switch" can be installed for manual operation.
- TIME CLOCK :: Lighting circuits remain "on" only at set times (daylight time changes to the time clock are always necessary). A manual "on off switch" comes with the time clock.
- TIME CLOCK / PHOTO CONTROL COMBINATION :: This system allows you to set the "off" time as desired, with the "on" time by photo control as the daylight time changes. A "kill switch" or "override switch" can also be installed for manual operation.

The perfect landscape lighting can add curb appeal, value, safety and security with a minimal amount of light. From highlighting architectural and textural elements of a building to drawing attention to an ornamental shrub or tree, landscape lighting adds drama by producing interesting shadows along vertical surfaces. The right combination of landscape lighting fixtures and layout will enhance the look of a property and its landscaping.
If you're considering adding lights to your outdoor space, it's important to remember that "less is more" when it comes to landscape lighting design. A little bit of light goes a long way, especially at night. Try not to focus on light sources in your design. Rather, design for the effect of illumination in your outdoor areas. Keep in mind that you don't have to settle for the look of an airport runway when adding lighting to walkways and driveways.
Landscape lighting also adds a sense of security as well to your home. A well-illuminated landscape can help protect against any potential intruders.
